Areca is the most popular ornamental palm used as an indoor and outdoor palm. Areca has a slow to moderate growth rate indoors and out doors. It can grow to a mature height of 8 ft indoors and upto 35 ft outdoors. It is commonly grown indoors, but it needs a consistently warm environment with high humidity and just the right lighting.
The seeds of areca are faded brown like the colour of a soil. The seeds are carefully dried indoors to get more germination rate.
Germination Procedure:
- Soak the seeds in water for atleast 24 hours.
- Mix a pinch of fungicide on wet seeds.
- Place the seeds on bed made of soil or sand.
- Sprinkle water on bed to get the bed moist.
- Keep the pot on semi-shade area.
- It usually takes 30 to 40 days to germinate.
